Biolab Farmacêutica supports and appreciates the initiatives of Brazilian researchers. For the 11th year in a row, the Company is the official sponsor of the "José Ribeiro do Valle" Award, promoted by the Brazilian Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (SBFTE), which supports pharmacological studies and rewards young scientists committed to healthcare developments in the country.

The award takes its name from Dr. José Ribeiro do Valle, a practitioner who significantly contributed to scientific research in Brazil, in addition to conceiving and creating the Institute of Pharmacology (INFAR) at São Paulo University (UNIFESP). This initiative has been evolving over the years and increasingly attracting researchers across the country.

The submitted research has great potential for success due to the new findings it presents, as well as commercial opportunities. Some of it may reach the population in the form of medication or in other ways, such as improvements and new procedures in general healthcare. This commitment demonstrates the ability and skill of Brazilian researchers to overcome health challenges and scenarios.

"Partnership with academic institutions is essential for Brazil's scientific development. We know that the situation is not favorable, but there are plenty of specialized researchers with a lot of potential. Therefore, it is our responsibility to encourage them and provide ways for them to carry out their work in a dynamic manner, rewarding those who excel," emphasizes Dr. Dante Alario Jr., CSO of Biolab.

Biolab has two research, development and innovation centers: one in Brazil and one in Canada. There are more than 100 researchers working to discover new formulas and molecules that will help provide people with better quality of life.

"Many projects developed by Biolab are executed in partnership with universities and research institutions. The Vonau Flash product, for example, began at São Paulo University. Biolab developed it for the market. Today, it is one of São Paulo University's most important healthcare patents, being an excellent example of a successful partnership and how the industry needs to work together," observes Paulo Francischini de Carvalho, PhD - Biolab Project Specialist.

SBFTE provides opportunities for research projects and helps build core pharmacology research in several states. The award reaffirmed this commitment in 2018 with finalists from São Paulo, Paraná and Maranhão.

In the 2018 edition, the winner was researcher Bruna da Silva Soley, from the Federal University of Paraná. "I was surprised, since all the projects were very good. I'm very happy because it's another incentive to continue doing my work in the best way. And I have many to thank: the University that gave me all its support, the organizers of the event, who give us this opportunity to present our work, and also to my mentor who was vital for me to win this award," says Bruna.

The winning project was overseen by Professor Daniela de Almeida Cabrini. "This award is very important as an incentive for Brazilian researchers and also as a way to bring the university increasingly closer to private enterprise, in order to promote the research we do. I would like to thank SBFTE and also Biolab, and we hope that this partnership will continue and expand," the Professor stresses.

This year's judging committee was formed by Prof. Dr. Christoph Thiemermann (William Harvey Research Institute, Queen Mary University of London, UK), Prof. Dr. Emilio Hirsch (Department of Molecular Biotechnology and Health Sciences, University of Torino, Italy) and coordinated by Prof. Dr. Rosely O Godinho (Paulista School of Medicine, Federal University of São Paulo).

The José Ribeiro do Valle Award was presented during the 50th SBFTE Congress, held on September 25-28 in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo (SP).
