Nasal hydration goes well with winter
The coldest time of the year is marked by low air humidity, which can increase the incidence of respiratory diseases and allergies. This is due to the high concentration of pollutants in the atmosphere, which, during cold weather, end up being deposited on the earth's surface, resulting in irritation of the mucous membranes and the ideal condition for the emergence of conditions such as asthma attacks, bronchitis, rhinitis and sinusitis.
During this season, cold air can also irritate the airways and trigger allergic symptoms such as itching, runny nose and even shortness of breath. This is because the nose is the main gateway to the air we breathe. That's why it's important to maintain good nasal hygiene and hydration which, as well as relieving symptoms and cleaning the mucous membrane, can help prevent respiratory diseases. Neglecting to take care of your nose can increase the chances of infection by viruses or bacteria, which are responsible for problems such as otitis, tonsillitis and even pneumonia.
To carry out proper hygiene, the ideal is to use sodium chloride-based nasal solutions, which should be placed in an appropriate nasal irrigator, repeating the procedure in both nostrils. While doing this in one nostril, keep your head tilted so that the water comes out the other side.
For daily nasal moisturizing, nasal solutions in spray format are the most suitable and can be used three times a day, 1 or 2 doses in each nostril, adjusting according to your nasal hygiene routine and the weather conditions in your area. When necessary, blow your nose to eliminate secretions that have already been fluidized by the solution.
Although we can't directly control the weather, some measures can improve our health and quality of life:
. Drink plenty of fluids.
. Place cloths or buckets of water around the house, especially in the bedroom during sleep, or use air humidifiers.
. Nasal washing can be done a few times a day.
. Avoid carpets or curtains that accumulate dust.
. Wear cotton clothes and blankets.
. Limit prolonged exposure to air-conditioned environments.
. Always keep the house clean and airy.
Self-care is also in the simplest of everyday tasks, so get started!
