It's time for sun (and protection!)
With the arrival of the hottest period of the year, it's time to enjoy the longer days and the extra hours of sunshine that the weather provides. But how can you do this safely, while keeping your skin beautiful and healthy?
At this time of year, several factors contribute to increased exposure to the sun for long periods, such as the end-of-year vacations, school vacations and the ideal climate for spending more time in the pool, parks and on the beach.
And that's when the problems start to appear: dryness, peeling, spots, redness and skin burns become more common and, worse, contribute to premature aging due to the action of ultraviolet rays. It even increases the occurrence of skin cancer in the long term.
This is very worrying - according to the National Cancer Institute (INCA), skin cancer accounts for 27% of all malignant tumors diagnosed in Brazil. But despite being the most common type, it has a low lethality rate and can be treated and, above all, prevented.
That's why it's important to warn about daily care for the largest organ of the human body: our skin.
- Hydrate yourself by consuming the right amount of water and fluids;
- Apply sunscreen all over your body every day, at least 30 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply every 2 hours;
- Use and abuse body moisturizer. Its action helps to create a barrier that maintains the right level of moisture in the skin and, consequently, its hydration;
- Avoid exposure to the sun between 10am and 3pm;
- Eat foods rich in beta-carotene. This is a natural antioxidant known for protecting against ultraviolet rays. It is present in carrots, pumpkins, apples, papaya and other orange fruits and vegetables;
- When showering, use soaps that suit your skin type. The water temperature should be cold or lukewarm to prevent dryness.
To further help prevent sun exposure, talk to your dermatologist about dietary supplements with antioxidants, such as the combination of astaxanthin and lutein. The former inhibits photoaging, reduces hyperpigmentation and helps moisturize the skin. Lutein, on the other hand, offers enhanced skin protection against the effects of exposure to solar radiation, improves skin elasticity and filters out blue light, which is responsible for the damage caused by UV rays.
Coming home after a day in the sun is better when you have the right protection!
