Araujo drugstore stores will have free blood pressure checks next Monday; find out more
The service will be available in 340 units of the chain, located in 65 cities in Minas Gerais, on a first-come, first-served basis.
On September 29th, in celebration of World Heart Day, Drogaria Araujo will offer free blood pressure checks in 340 stores across the state, located in 65 cities in Minas Gerais, on a first-come, first-served basis. The action is part of the Red September campaign, which seeks to raise awareness of the risks of cardiovascular diseases and reinforce the importance of prevention.
The initiative stands out in Minas Gerais, since the state ranks second in the prevalence of hypertension and third in mortality from cardiovascular diseases in Brazil, according to data from DATASUS.
The action on the 29th is the result of Together for Better Control' project, launched by Biolab Farmacêutica in partnership with Omron Healthcare and the Minas Gerais Society of Cardiology. Trained pharmacists will carry out measurements following strict protocols, guaranteeing accurate and reliable results.
The measurement follows established criteria: the patient must be at rest for five minutes, take three consecutive measurements at one-minute intervals, and the average of the last two will be recorded. This electronically stored data can be shared with doctors for diagnosis and follow-up.
For Biolab's Marketing Manager, Lucas Marqueto Passos, the project inaugurates a new standard of care. "Our aim is to transform care for hypertensive patients, placing them at the center of an integrated health network. Minas Gerais marks the beginning of this transformation, which can inspire advances throughout Brazil, promoting more efficient, accessible and humanized care," he says.
Kleisson Maia, director of the Minas Gerais Society of Cardiology, points out that standardization is a milestone in monitoring hypertension. "Many measurements taken in pharmacies were not standardized and could compromise medical follow-up. Now, with pharmacists working, it will be possible to guarantee correct and consistent measurements over time. This pioneering project helps in the diagnosis and control of hypertension, enabling closer and more effective care for heart health," he explains.
Drogaria Araujo's technical manager, Isabel Dias, points out that each unit has become a strategic monitoring point. "Araujo's presence in this initiative expands the population's access to standardized, quality care. Our pharmacists have been trained to follow strict protocols and welcome customers, supporting doctors with reliable data and contributing to the prevention of cardiovascular complications," she says.
In addition to this project, Araujo maintains programs such as Hipertensão em Dia, which offers individualized support for adherence to treatment, as well as partnerships in telemedicine and a line of low-sodium products.
Hypertension
Hypertension, known as high blood pressure, is one of the main causes of heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure. Risk factors include stress, a sedentary lifestyle, obesity, excess salt, alcohol and ultra-processed foods. Prevention includes regular physical activity, a balanced diet and regular blood pressure checks.
In cases of pressure above 180/120 mmHg accompanied by symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath or mental confusion, the advice is to seek immediate medical attention.
